I bought Mass Effect yesterday, since it was cheap (only 20 bucks) and it got great reviews. However, I can't help but have mixed feelings about it. It's good at times, but very boring and disappointing at others. Do note that I've only been playing for about 4 hours, so maybe it gets better. I was given access to the ship, and I've visited a couple planets and done some sidequests.

-Fighting is really random. The Sniper Rifle is nearly impossible to aim. It feels like my character is having a seizure while he's aiming it. Plus, hit detection seems kind of wonky. I have to be very close to my opponents to even hurt them, while they can down me from really far away.

-It's too hard. The game started out really easy, but now it's different. In nearly every fight I'm in, both of my allies get shot a few times and immediately die. Then I have to take on the enemies all by myself, popping in and out of cover to occasionally shoot my assault rifle.

-The radar is awful. It doesn't give you very clear instructions on where to go.

-Exploring planets is about as much fun as watching a bowl of pudding. All the planets I've been to are just a series of hills and the occasional mineral deposit.

So does the game get better the more I play it, or is this pretty how much it is from then on out? I love the RPG elements and improving my character, but the traveling aspect is dreadful and enemies are broken.

-The fighting isn't random. Every battle has a purpose, but not all battles string the storyline. You don't just kill off random thugs. One day of gameplay isn't enough to be a proper judgement of this game (Seriously).

-The game is not too hard, you just have to control your attributes and your partners. Use your partners strengths to your advantage, and if you are a sodlier it is your duty to provide medical assistance as well as be the frontline for them. Your partners will not be very proficient in very much in the beginning of the game as you go through character development. Every mission, they gain EXP, so use it wisely.

- The radar isn't awful, the world is open ended. There are multiple floors in the game, so the blip could be focusing anywhere. Use clues and think about your actions before you move.

-Exploring planets isn't fun, unless you're a tech. The planets are about exploring and getting minerals, computer programs and more to fulfill achivements. When you start doing missions to take out groups on other planets, it will apply to your soldier class(assuming you're a soldier first).

My advice to you is to keep playing. First impressions with this game mean nothing.
