I don't know what your talking about(I didn't read before this post) but I know some games, like Lost Odyssey, were developed with existing engines(didn't is use Unreal, or something?), and had very few spell/attack/summon animations and no FMVs, and could concievably have costs MUCH less to develop than even a low budget PS2 game.

What? Lost Odyssey had a different animation for each spell. It had a frequent amount of FMV's and I'm pretty sure it cost a lot more money then you think mainly because they had to pay a 3rd party for the use of their engine

Yeah, LO would have been a really expensive game to make. Not quite on the same level as Final Fantasy, but there were loads of extended FMVs, there is a reason that it took up 4 discs, I am not sure if 800k would have made up for it
