I know this is contentious, but the whole premise of this site and the industry it supports is innovation, competition, investment and depth within the gaming industry.  Whatever the disagreement over to what extent, there is no denying the piracy and console modding costs this industry a tonne of money, and inevitability results in sackings, game cancellations and a lack of innovation.

At the very least, people admitting to piracy on VGChartz are being granted a forum to advocate their illegal and disruptive actions.

Half this site would be banned... including a good portion of the mod team. Remember if your banning for piracy you would also have to ban for piracy from other industries which would include music and software. I'm pretty sure 95% of this community has or have downloaded music illegally before.

Your understanding of the term console modding is way to general of a subject as there are different forms of modding. There is the modding to change the look of a console. A great example of this is Queen Elizabeth's gold plated Nintendo Wii. By the way you make it sound Nintendo should ban her friend code from use because it doesn't look like the manufacturer intended. There is also the modding, which I support, which allows a user to do things they can't normally do like use Windows XP on the PSP. I see no reason why console manufacturers have any right to tell you what you can or cannot do with a product you purchased.

Doing illegal things like downloading games and playing them is a different being in terms of law. It is going against copyright laws. This is what the industry should be fighting, not general modification of a game device that you own.

Are you kidding? Why on earth would a video game site have to take an in principle opposition to film and music piracy?

I already established in a post further down the thread that I meant console modding for the purpose of pirac

Because if we're going to be so high and mighty, and ban people for the purpose of justice and morality, we shouldn't limit our selves to self interest. Doing so itself is immoral and unjust.

Well said. Both yourself and vagabond's posts pretty much sum up my feelings on the matter.

I almost find this high-n-mighty attitude as distasteful as those who actually brag about pirating... well, that's a gross exaggeration, but I do mean it to some extent.
