If you want this thread to succeed, Soriku, here are a few things I learned while managing your last elimination game:

NECESSITIES:

1. The rules must be clear, concise, and unrelenting. (The exception I made for you notwithstanding.)

2. Votes that violate the rules must be invalidated and that vote removed from the score. NEVER invalidate only part of a vote, because it's hard to keep track of and odds are they won't bother to correct it and then you have half a vote on the list; you'll get bogged down and the list won't be respected.

3. The rules can be changed, but DO NOT retroactively invalidate votes. This generates serious ill will and opens you up to all kinds of accusations. This is true even if you MEANT to put that rule in from the start, because you actually DIDN'T and you shouldn't punish voters for that.

4. Be careful and be good at math. You will not be taken seriously if you make mistakes.

5. Monitor the thread for invalid votes, bad math, and people using outdated versions of the list (see Recommendation No. 2). If the mistakes get out of hand, the thread will fail, and there is VERY little room on this kind of thing between "no mistakes" and "mistakes getting out of hand".

RECOMMENDATIONS:

1. Have a statute of limitations on invalid votes; if the list is on Page 5 and you spot a mistake on Page 2, let it slide.

2. There are 3 ways to do the list: One list on Page 1 that you update; one list that you repost regularly with updates; or one list that everyone reposts with their votes. The first two are very high-maintenance: you WILL be expected to update very regularly, and people WILL inadvertently vote on eliminated people, causing bad feeling all around. I STRONGLY recommend option 3, even though it takes up a lot of space, although this still means you (or someone, not me this time) will have to check for inaccuracies.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.
