hmm tell me why you think like that. |
I think like that because I love games. And by games I mean the game mechanics, not the game graphics or the gameplay if you want to split gameplay from game mechanics.
I love that humans have always used their brains to make up games, and I love when someone creates a game that is solid and self contained and new. And while videogaming is very short on innovation, true game innovation, Nintendo is the only company that still tries to deconstruct a game to make the design as simple and stripped as they can, and focus on the acctual mechanics of a game.
The two other console makers have chosen to go with style over content, pushing an agenda where the most realistic looking and feeling games are the best games. I completely disagree with that maxim and to me, driving gaming in the direction of more and more life like wolfenstein clones is killing gaming, because the focus, energy and money is spent on the wrong things. They are focused on polygon counts, hi res textures and physics simulation, which has nothing to do with game mechanics and takes away from the quality of a game.
The same goes for story, video games today try to trick players into thinking the game is new or better by creating a innvolving storyline. I disagree again, the best games needs no story. A story is somethign you add to the game because it can make it seem different than the same game from last year.
That's why I think like that.
