My point is why would developers put their AAA material on the Wii when they can easily develop a simple low budget game and get equal or better sales? If quality games sold better on the Wii more support would come from it. |
Because that argument has been used by third parties so far to avoid developing pretty much any game of the same caliber as those on the PS360 so far (countless games have passed over the Wii, and those that have landed on it have often been gimped or otherwise sabotaged for no good reason; CoD:WaW comes to mind), and as we've observed over the past two generations, this argument leads to a no-win scenario on the part of the Wii:
If shovelware third party games on the Wii don't sell, then there's no market for third party games, period. All development would cease (see: GameCube).
If shovelware third party games on the Wii do sell (present scenario), then there's no reason to improve the caliber of development, and third parties can keep throwing their table scraps at it.
Either way, you're left with a situation where third parties have some flimsy justification to avoid taking the Wii seriously by committing their best teams to it, which is just asinine when you consider the size of the Wii market alone is now roughly equivalent to both its competitors combined, and with development costs that don't involve betting the entire house on a single game.
