If you look at the pattern of third party development on the Wii it seems to be that Nintendo (or another developer) creates a game which is simple, fun, and/or unique and it sells remarkably well and soon enough every third party publisher copies that game. Now this wouldn't necessarily be bad if these publishers were copying the success of games that are in genres where there had been a track record of the genre supporting several releases in a given year; but often these games are in genres which are either (mostly) new or have only (typically) supported a couple of games in a generation. I can understand that these companies want to build an IP in new and exciting markets (like fitness games) but they have produced an environment where they are in heavy competition with other third party publishers while leaving little competition for Nintendo with their conventional games.
