I suspect it has something to do with the internet. Look at last generation: Nintendo was all over experimenting with peripherals and alternative controlling methods. Now, they are doing all kinds of things with Wi-Fi Connection.
Don't know what's going to happen exactly, but I think Nintendo is going to do something revolutionairy with the internet.
For Sony and Microsoft? They can either keep ignoring Nintendo and keep attacking each other, which would mean that their next consoles would be their last, or they would do something like the Wii, whichwould probably keep them alive, but in a very minor position.
