In order to get an appropriate snapshot of where things stand, one needs to do what will likely NOT make a fanboy happy. It is best to wait a few months to see how trends are, preferably up to 6 months (to a year), to be able to detect solid trends in things. The problem for fanboys is by the time that information is out, it is old, and not good ammo.
Even the media that covers the industry gets into this. The media was writing "Nintendo is doomed" based on a few month boosts in PS3 sales due to some top titles hitting and the FF13 demo.
If one wanted to be incredibly short-sighted, all one has to do is look to the few weeks where the 360 led in Japan, due to a few monster releases it had that fit there. But, look where it is now. A few bursts don't mean long-term sales success.
On this note, need to see what happens, and if the trend continues.
