Bernie Stolar's hiring was Sega's fault. If Sega of Japan didn't tell Tom Kalinske, the guy successfully took on Nintendo in North America, how do his job. He would have been running things instead of the idiot Stolar. Of course suits in Japan thought their distant third place finish in in the domestic market meant they knew more than the guy that had narrow second place finish to Nintendo in North America. What's even sadder is that Sega of Japan did the worst job with the Mega Drive. The Mega Drive out sold the SNES in the PAL territories 10 million to 8 million.
