You ask the question yet you describe games that are fun instead of examples of adult games that do not have violence.

It's a preference, and for me it comes down to thematic value. Shadow of the colossus (and ico) is game without any blood or cursing in it, yet I consider it an adult game. I can even turn this back on movies. There is a fine line between little mermaid and lilo and stitch, or Toy story and the incredibles. Some of these movies and games, in addition to being fun, gives food for thought and for the most part are highly philosophical.

I think it shows a misunderstanding about what is adult when someone looks at metal gear solid and all they see is shooting and violence or if a gamer looks at Xenogears and all they think about is some uber mech destruction. Iconsider Final fantasy tactics to be mature but not overt with its violence. It is all a matter of point of view and what type of gratification you are looking for when you play your video game. Halo is a story that has it;s hardcore fans pondering over it's ties to marathon and possibly rampancy (uncontrolled expansion of an AI) and a few other things. GTA was blunt satire.... not a game that I like persay but I saw it. The storyline and scenes were comprised of many nods to gangster flicks and cliche's spread all over. There are some that understand and there are some that don't but knocking people who prefer mature content in their game is just as silly as anyone mocking people who "don't" prefer mature content in their games.
