I don't think it's true, as Sony really doesn't have to money to spend manufacturing a whole new PS3 model. If this is in the works, the earliest we'll see it is at net years E3. If it is true and Sony can get it out before the holiday at a $299 price, it would definitely sell like hotcakes, but they still wouldn't pass the XBox 360 or Wii in sales in 2009. I would expect that M$ would knock off at least $50 on all their XBox 360's in the process.
