I'm still gaming on a 26" SD TV that sometimes doesn't work.

Oldschool!

I do that with my PS2.

High five!

lol!

but really, can PS2's or any last gen system for that matter be used with HDTV's or no?

Not so sure about the amount of PS2 games that support it but a fair number of Gamcube and Xbox games support at least 480p. I've been gaming on a HDTV since 2003 and the first time i played F-Zero GX in 480p and 16:9 on my HDTV i was still blown away.  Of course it's not SD-HD difference but if you go from a crap SD TV to a good HD TV you will notice the difference even with SD sources.  However, going from a good SD TV to a cheap LCD monitor or HD TV and you may find that you've taken a step backwards.
