Question: Why does everyone assume that consoles need to be drastically redesigned? What precedence do we have for this?

... NES, PS1, PS2 - All three were the market leader and all were so they could be sold at the end of (or even beyond) their generations. Right in the middle of a generation seems a strange time to spend the R&D on something like this.

(Did I miss any?)

A redeign as in the case of PSOne and PSTwo is a no brain buisness move, especially in the case of PS3. A redesign on a console is not very expensive for a company, and can cut way back on many problems a larger product causes.

The benifits of a slimmed down redesign:

-Cut of cost on meterials = cut of cost on production = more profits (or) price cut.
-Ship more for less, less weight + less space = huge savings.
-More shelf space = more consoles in store = more advertisments = better chance to sell.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.
