because the fact one came out before the other offset the whole thing. The reason US clung to 360 like crabs was due to its early release and from tat point they dont want to actually buy another console, regardless of anything else that is going on. It was an impulse buy due it it hitting first and being pretty good in its own right.
Had they released on the same date, there would have been no time for the media to bash it nonstop, there would have been no pompous"late for the party" advertisement from MS, but there would have been the extremely strong Sony Playstation Brand name to simply trounce over the competition.

Had they launched at the same time, Gears 1 would have been a launch title and the Xbox 360 would be sporting even more capable Direct X 10 class hardware for the GPU and perhaps another core on the CPU.

Exactly. They always try to make it look like the year headstart was only a positive, but in fact had they waited it could have been better for the 360.
They ignore the argument of "360 launched earlier and people were waiting for all the consoles to make their pick" when they view the worldwide aligned launches, but when the PS3 has never done well in America they STILL think it can somehow follow the PS2's sales?
@GameAnalyzer What reason would I have to believe the PS3 will follow the PS2's sales trends when so far the PS3 has not been even remotely close. Even big games haven't sold well and haven't moved that many PS3's in America. And since when were Infamous and Heavy Rain ever even considered for a 360 release?

I didn't mention that ps3 has acquired the ps2's sales pace. But it will with onset of sales rise induced by price-cut.
I hope u visit sites outside VGC which keeps mentioning about the games that loses or gains exclusivity. Heavy Rain is one example. U can google or
