Well, have you read any PSP Slim review? That's movies and XMB, he specifically mentioned games. Games are not only played through component only, but they are progressive only and they have both huge letterboxing+pillarboxing. This means that not only chances are your SDTV craps out on games (EDTVs and HDTVs should all be fine), but also that the PSP will only use about 2/3 of your screen space to output games (unless your TV has a way to "manually" fiddle with that).
