I'll end this conversation about wii sports in 5 seconds. NPD doesn't cover it nor consider it software sales. End of f'n conversation? The only place on earth that considers american wii sports as software sales is THIS site. The only place it is real software sales is where it's not packaged with the system such as Japan.

Here's a history lesson: In Feb 07 when Lost Planet was the top selling game of the month, Capcom released a statement proclaiming them the highest selling game of the month. Did you know this site had Wii sports as first? A. It's not software to NPD B. Its not software to game companies C. Nintendo would be releasing press releases detailing the Wii Sports sales landmarks if THEY considered it real software.

NPD however does include wii play so that is allowed to be included in Wii software.

Exactly.  Wii Sports should not be counted.  The difference between Wii Sports and Motorstorm is that you can still purchase a brand new PS3 in the US without Motorstorm.  The Wii doesn't give consumers the option of buying a cheaper version of the Wii without Wii Sports, unlike the PS3 and Motorstorm.  Let's say EVERY 360 came with the XBLA game Hexic.  Should that be counted under software sales?  Why not, because it's not on a disc?  So if it was?

Wii Play is software.  NPD considers it to be software, and game companies consider it to be software.  Also, for all the PS3 fans arguing Wii Play should not be included because it's a controller with a $10 game included, isn't Warhawk just a Bluetooth headset with a $x game included?  Why should it be counted?

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick
