That's because Nintendo games focus on game play and experience instead of awesome graphics which is what drives Asian people in general, also that in Asia, it's more about the style, not realism, cel-shade will never die there, but anyways, Nintendo makes superior games in terms of taste in Asian gamers so it's nothing new by any means. People also generally have lives there, so story isn't that big of a deal overall, they actually read books, crazy eh?
