Damn... Apogee was one of the 90's shareware developers. They published id's Wolfenstein, which was a turning point. It didn't just make FPS mainstream but also would eventually lead the way towards full blown 3D. All your halos, killzones and what not are basically iterations of id's and apogee's seminal games.

It's a piece of goddamn history down the drain =/

Think about it like this: 3D Realms was merely a shadow of what Apogee used to be. The real loss happened years ago, now it's just a practically irrelevant developer going out of business.

 

 

It's true 3D Realms wasn't carrying the flag, but they at least had it in a coffer somewhere. Now the whole legacy will be split in chunks and sold to the highest bidder... can't wait for the inevitable Duke Nukem shovelware to be released shortly.
