so here is the time line.
First Gen/ yellow,Green,Red,Blue
Second Gen/ Gold, Silver,Crystal
Third Gen/ ruby, Sapphire, Emerald
Fourth Gen/ Diamond, Pearl,Platinum
Leaf Green and Fire Red are GBA remakes of the First gen pokemon games. They came out after ruby and sapphire but before emerald. If you are wanting to play the First gen games, fire red and leaf green is deffinitly the route to take. They have everything from the originals plus much much more. (minus pikachu following you around in yellow version)
