They also have Foxxcon making the new motherboards in the 40gb version. It's a new motherboard revision, so it's smaller, and most likely more efficient then the original ones that I believe were made by Asustek. Foxxcon of course is the company that makes the motherboards for the current PS2 slim.
Sure, the cost savings may not be astronomical at this point and time, but I don't think Sony would put themselves into a position to lose more then $100 on any of their consoles at this point in time.
