I had to necro this thread after seeing this article regarding the PS3:

A dual layer is 40GB
Does this mean the PS3 disc format "wastes" exactly the same percentage of space as the 360?
40 GB out of 50 GB = 80%
6.8 GB out of 8.5 GB = 80%
