I think the big issue for this was that it had a set date for the release. Stores had been told the game is coming out this month for these consoles.

A lot of effort and time went to promote Ghostbusters for the Wii, PC and 360.. Those people won't be happy.

I understand and agree with you. I personally think Sony should have acquired the publishing rights a while back so there could still be a simultaneous release of the game. What I'm trying to do is just add perspective to the reasoning Sony did it. I think it was a good idea but poorly executed.
