What games were you hyped about until you found out they actually suck.

Well, I tend to not get hyped, but two games that I found dissapointing (not that they sucked, just that they disappointed) where:

Assassin's Creed and Resistance 2.

Assassin's Creed

I loved the premise, the engine, the world they created, everything. But I have to be harsh, they simply didn;t finish the game. I'm guessing the budget went bust but I'm convinced they had to quit when all they had was the mechanic for the missions in place but hadn't fleshed out the missions at all.

Two clues where the extended, suddenly combat centric ending - a sure sign of padding in games struggling to get done on current funds - and the flag hunt, a sure sign of padding getting some poor sod to spend a day or two simply picking places on the pre-built levels to stick flags. When I realised the actual game wasn't there but the engine and everything else was fantastic I was sorely disappointed.

Still, it sold bucket loads so Ubi has no excuse for number 2 - although given so many people were happy to buy an incomplete game you never know they might just try and get away with it again...


Resistance 2

I liked Resistance 1 - it gets bashed for graphics, etc. but I liked it because it was old school (carry huge arsenal, more SP than MP focused, lots of maps/levels in SP covering a lot of ground), it has a neat setting (I liked its alternative history and how it was presented) and set the scene for an bigger story (what are the Cloven? What are the Chimera? etc, etc.).

Resistance 2 had better (if sometimes variable) graphics, but it suddenly dropped the old school (only 2 weapons now, etc), had a less engaging SP (IMHO), confused the hell out of the story, and looked rushed when it shouldn't have.

As a bonus it did have a great coop though.

Again, it didn't suck - but fairly soon into the SP I began to feel disappointed that instead of sticking to their own original design premises, Insomniac had felt the need to change things for no reason other than to follow the crowd.


Haze I would have been disappointed it big time, but given I chose not to even bother getting it I guess I can't say more than that.
