8.5 x 11 inches = 612 x 792 pixels @ 72ppi (~0.484 Megapixels)

The Lens of the cam is the most important part, not the megapixels.

Now, let's blow that up to really high ppi. 200ppi. This is the photo printing quality, I think.

8.5 x 11 inches = 1700 x 2200 pixels (3.74 Megapixels)

So, what's the megapixels we need to print on a 5x7 photo?

5x7 inches = 1400x1000 pixels = 1.4 megapixels

Realistically, you wouldn't want to print anything larger than a credit card size from the pics you mess around with in the DSi.

Credit size = 86 x 54 mm = 677 x 425 pixels @ 200ppi = 0.287725 megapixels

Okay, I am done doing math :)

those are the minimum requirements, a 8x10' on 5mpx will look sharper have more detail. using the same lens and type of sensor

dsi doesn't have carl zeiss of leica lens either. its like a phone camera , i will said again why would anyone would want to print a "credit size" with no autofocus, CMOS sensor. though that changed now.
