I'm shocked that there is still people that think that the ten year plan means Sony won't come out with another console until 2016? there just going to keep supporting the PS3 until 2016 like all the other platforms Sony came out with...

Now that I got that off my chest, 2012 seems like a good year. Sony is playing it smart, looks like there going back to the PS1, PS2 days when there console was plain, simple and plays great games.

But only 2 times as powerful as the PS3? wasn't the PS3 40 times more powerful then the PS2?

So it looks like there not going to focus on graphics for the PS4 (which isn't really that bad of an idea, it'd make things much simpler and cheaper for them) so they must be coming out with something new and different aswell, it can't be just a console twice as powerful as the PS3 and that's it, there must be something different there adding to it.

Yeah, I'm not sure why people think 10-year plan means no other consoles releases.  I will say this though...at this point, releasing a new ps console in 2012 would be problematic for continual support of ps3, unless there is more traction on gaining market share by the end of 2010.  I'm not saying developers won't support the ps3, it's just that developers have limited resources, and maximum ROI is the goal.  If the ps4 is going to be similar to the ps3 in programming for, this would be a plus, but if the nexbox and wii 2 are still much easier to program for, then those consoles would get the majority of developmental resources.

If you think that Sony will keep production of the PS3 after the PS4 comes out then you are crazy. It will be killed off just like the Cube and the Xbox was. The differance between the PS3 and its brothers is that they were in first place.

Sony is dead serious about the 10 year plan (they might not hit 10 years exactly maybe 8 or 9 years but still thats close enough). The PS3 can't be compared to the Gamecube and Xbox, because last generation both those consoles got completely owned by the PS2 (both those consoles were around 20 million and the PS2 is now at 125 million...that's definitely not going to be the case for this generation). I expect LTD sales for the PS3 to be 60 - 80 million. I dunno about you but 60 million is a failry huge number and obviously developers will want to support that large number since the new consoles will all have such low sale for couple years.

So I'd say if the new consoles are released in 2012 then the PS3 will more then likely be supported for 2 more years (2014) so that's 8 years on the market, IMO thats not to bad for a console thats been doomed ever sinse it launched.
