Any platform can have motion controls standard, so long as there is an option for standard controls and they aren't forced.

And by that I mean not forced by simply substituting shakes for button presses and tacking on other motions to replace button inputs, or forced by making the player use motion controls (ie Lair).

I imagine there would have been quite a backlash if Brawl had only remote/motion controls instead of the standard GC controls most of the hardcore players seem to favor.

But if they make the game SIMPLER and more intuitive, then most will be all for it, particularly those who don't want to have to learn a 10 button layout just to play a game.

The main advantage of making motion controls standard, is that everyone who owns the console won't have to buy extra controllers/peripherals (though there does seem to be quite the market for a ton of unnecessary plastic clip ons with the Wii platform), and developers don't have to worry about a split audience.
