Okay, this is something I don't get about the original post:
"I've been reading some of the discussion threads about sales, and it is the typical jihadesque milieu of fanboys throwing castigations and pejoratives at the other side."
What does that even mean? Do I have to dissect that sentence with the help of a dictionary? That didn't even confuse me though. What confused me is how he made sentences with words that I've never even seen used in my life (save for "jihad," but not too many times in this context). And after that first sentence or so, his writing was high school quality at best and he forgot to capitalize most of his words (plus I'm pretty sure the punctuation sucked).
Just for fun, I used an online dictionary to find out what his sentence really meant.
"I've been reading some of the discussion threads about sales, and it is the typical jihadesque milieu of fanboys throwing castigations and pejoratives at the other side."
Before I get started, what kind of a word is jihadesque? Seriously? Are you thinking of jihadist, or is there some branch off of the main work that was mixed with the word rubenesque?
So, basically, you've been reading threads about sales. And you would describe them as (using the word "jihadist" instead of "jihadesque"):
"I've been reading some of the discussion threads about sales, and it's like the typical holy war for an idea or principle surroundings of fanboys throwing criticisms and reprimands and I-don't-even-know-what-to-do-with-pejorative-because-it's-primarily-an-adjective at the other side."
Well I'll figure it out one of these days.

*claps hands* that is hilarious. the ol' make fun of the guy for using language in a way that is beyond one's comprehension...brilliant.
and a pejorative is a noun. "moron", which springs to mind, is a pejorative. it can also be used as an adjective as well. did you hear the great news? words can be used in several different parts of speech!
i don't really get what is so hard to follow in my post. i'm not condemning the study of sales. i even admit in the original post that it is interesting for me, hence my presence at a sales site. this is not brain surgery. it is on how some people use the sales figures that i was commenting.
and i didn't forget to capitalize any words. i just don't bother when i post.

Language is a tool for communication. Part of the skill in using language is adapting your style to suit a given situation. If you swear like a trooper in front of your work collegues it may be thought unprofessional, conversely using big words in front of the average person on the street and they'll think you are being a smart-ass, whether or not that was your intention. This is a games forum, be smart and allow people to focus on the content rather than the style of your posts.

invariably this response always comes up. while i understand that communication works best when all parties have no confusion over the language, i also don't agree with the lowest common denominator dictating those terms. in my line of work there are standards, and at some point people need to embrace language and simply ask what something means if they don't know. language should evolve over time, not decay. it is an embarrassment that today's generation is culling words at an ever increasing rate from its usage.
i get that coming off as overly erudite and rubbing it in people's faces can be intimidating and make one seem like a pompous ass. the truth is this is how i normally talk. if there are some young people here who don't track me, then i'm sorry and ask me to clarify myself. but as for others here....there is no ego in ignorance. perhaps the correct response is to look up new words thus improving one's own vocabulary, not to get offended. i encounter new words in my reading all the time, and i treat it as a learning experience.
and as for the content of my post, only a couple of responses in this thread have even apprehended what i was driving at. i was hoping to stimulate people into thinking about why they identity so much with the sales figures. i wasn't trying to change anyone's mind, rather i wanted to get people to understand why they do things.
