Rare has always been known for their easter eggs and other hidden goodies. I remember when I first started playing Donkey Kong 64, and in DK's house there's a picture of him and Diddy riding a dolphin. Well, "Dolphin" was GameCube's codename, so it was pretty cool to see Rare getting ready for Ninty's next console (and we all know how that turned out 
).
But yeah, everything in Rare's universes deserve a second look. You might be on to something for sure. Could it be Banjo-Threeie? I won't get my hopes up.
