The town scenes and other world scenes look great but those battle scenes are just pathetic.

Especially that one in the dark place where they're fighting what looks like a slime.  I have no idea why they would even release that!

Of course they do. But this game is quite ambitious for Gust.

Take a look at their last effort.

There's nothing wrong at all with that screenshot, that one is fantastic.

I would take beautifully painted 2D backgrounds over barren 3D spaces any day.

It's just their first foray into 3D. (About 10 years late)

 

It doesn't really matter that it's their first attempt at 3D, it's still bad.  I hope for their sake that it isn't near final because they are jsut really bad especially when looking at everything else that is so good.

And even assuming those aren't final, why show them when they look so bad?

 

i hope you can do better job at that, having the budget they have. which is doubt ful.

 

Off topic, but that is by far one of most common and most retarded arguments people use.

For instance, I call Tony Romo, the Dallas Cowboys quarterbag, a terribly quarterback and then some moron comes back with "well I'd like to you do a better job, HA!"  Well no shit sherlock, I'm not a quarterback so I can't do a fucking better job but I'm also not the one getting paid.

But wait, I am a level designer, and while I can't show you any of my current work, I can show you work that I did as a student:

 

It's no RPG and it's far from perfect, but hey, at least I have stuff going on in the picture and I actually populated the environment.

So there you go, I did better smartass.  :-p
