I guess you missed the part when I said 'until only a few years back'. It is only in what, the past 20 years? that the Russian government stopped a lot of this.
It's hardly likely that the Russian government will have another mass genocide.
I mean some horrible things have happened in Chechnya and that is more recent than slavery and Nazis, who have pretty much all but died off.
But a lot of the people from Chechnya I would imagine still fear the Russians as it was only recently this occured. In 50 years perhaps it will be largely forgiven and forgotten, like with the Nazis or the slave owners.
What the Russian military have done is still fresh in many peoples memories, I'm sure a lot of tortured Chechnyan's will agree with me.
The government works much better now and I doubt we will see anything quite as bad again though
