Beat the first boss! It only took me two tries (the first being last night)!
And while I thought I had plenty of turpentine, I was wrong, and two more playthroughs of the first level didn't help me find any, so I spent all my souls on like 5 firebrands.
I went into the final boss, spammed all my firebrands to get the things off him, then weaved my way through what was left to get in my hits. It took a lot of sidestepping around, but I got 'im!
I also got my body back and now have like 5k souls! :D
And now I'm stuck. I went back to the Nexus, and the freaky chick told me to go upstairs and talk to the maiden. i went upstairs and wnadered all around, but can't figure out what I'm supposed to do.

Man, I love this game. The combat is great. It's an insanely tough game, but it feels tough for a reason. It's not cheap, and it instead encourages to really learn the (rather simple) battle system.
This is what a true hack n' slash should be. It's not a bunch of flashy combos or button mashing. You can attack, attack hard, block, push, parry, and run away. Using these effIctively leads to victory.
