I did a report and presentation for university on Internet piracy and it's effect on the sales of TV hardware and whether it is a benefit or hindrance. I examined both viewpoint for and against examining the various factors supporting both. My eventual conclusion was that it was a pretty big hindrance.
I found out that in countries that had growing rates of Internet piracy had a direct correlation for declining sales of new television technology such as subscribed IPTV services.
Piracy harms the economy in pretty much every way, in fact I could only find one situation where Internet piracy actually spurred the sales of television hardware in any significant way.
I study television technology at university and my industry can't grow because of this. Every time one of these sites flare into existence you might as well spit in my face.
