FE was planned to be on the N64, but was canned early in development. Presumably, they believed that a 2D board game wouldn't sell very well on a 3D platform (first one at least). Thus, they made yet another one on the SNES (hence why FE5 was the very last game to release on the SNES, in 1998).

Intelligent Systems pretty much ditched the 5th gen completely. They made 4th gen games all the way untill they made Paper Mario in 2001, and then went onto the GBA, and then the GC.

 

If there's one specific thing about Intelligent Systems: They wait a long time before starting to develop for a system.

They tend to release titles even after the successor of the machine they're making it for is released.

 

 

Other than that, Soriku - get FE7 first. It's the best introduction to the series. Period.
