Can someone please tell me what trading card game in the last five years hasn't been based off an already-popular franchise of some nature? I can't think of any besides Yu-Gi-Oh!, which was based off a popular anime. Before that it was Pokémon, based off one of the most popular franchises in modern history. Before that was a true original in Magic the Gathering.
I can't think of any recent examples of card games based on a new universe that sell well.
