Sony has still sold more systems this generation than Microsoft, and by the time it's over, it will have sold more than twice as many and hence will have had a larger impact on the market(PS3+PSP).

 HAHAHAHA!

Oh, sorry. I thought you were being sarcastic.

IT remebers me how happy Sony was when they have surpassed Microsoft in their online networks. PSN accounts for PS3 and PSP. I'm sorry, but you're doing the same you are highligting about MS fans in the last gen.

No, I'm not. Instead of celebrating a negligible tactical victory of a few million units, I'm looking at the big picture.

Even if PS3 and 360 had the shoe on the other foot and the PS3 had the lead, it still wouldn't mean shit because such a lead doesn't mean anthing, especially in the eyes of developers. If the 360 were leading 40 million to 20 million right now, then I could understand all the celebration, but that's not the case, now is it?

Fact of the matter is, the 360's sales in and of themselves aren't that great. They only look decent at best when you ignore the Wii and compare them to the PS3 and exaggerate the lead. The funny thing is that if the PS3 weren't around and it were just the 360 vs. the Wii, then the 360 would be catching sheer hell for its rather poor sales, especially back in 2007(yuck). The only console that the 360 will have outsold all generation is the PS3, and even then it won't be a decisive victory. It's really not a victory at all because, as I said, Sony has a presence in all three markets and has a system that has strong sales in all regions whereas Microsoft has neither. It's the same as last gen when Xbox fans were creaming themselves for the 2 million unit victory over the Gamecube when in reality, Nintendo had still sold far more systems, just as this gen Sony will have sold more systems and the PSP will have outsold everything in Japan except the DS. HEll, Sony has owned MS this generation with the PSP alone.

MS can sit here and keep celebrating a lead of a few million units that will mean nothing when the generation is said and done, but that's just "through the looking glass." Last time I checked, the one who sells the most consoles has the biggest impact on the market, so the real winner is actually Nintendo, which neither MS or Sony can touch with a hundred foot pole.
