@Final Evangelon, theres only one major operating system for computers, one internet, one fax machine standard etc. If the consoles continue to lack interoperatability then as more and more consoles are connected...

There can be only one.

Many car manufacturers, many manufacturers of televisions, many fast food joints, etc.

There may be some more standardization, but this generation won't be seeing only one console manufacturer.  Probably not next generation either.  If one leaves, another one will probably come in to try and compete.

As more an more people start to use the online components the most important feature becomes "can I connect with my friends" moreso than "who has the best games/whose hardware is better". PSN does not connect with Xbox Live so it becomes more of an issue as time passes.

That is a point.  If only PSN and XBL integrated with Steam...

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
