As far as I know, Nintendo didn´t endorse the 'Wii60' idea...after that idea came from MS, I remember Nintendo saying something like "no, buy Wii games instead".

That's correct.  Nintendo never did say anything about the "Wii60" thing.  Before the Wii, Iwata said their goal not to sell more units than MS or Sony, but to try a different and more profitable approach.  It worked.  When Peter Moore made the "Wii60" comment, there was probably a large under-estimation on his part in predicting the Wii side of the equation.

Peter Moore's expertise was in branding and that's why he was appointed as the executive of the gaming division.  He knows how brand loyalty and fanboy psychology works.

Hate is a work among fanboys and loyalists.  In capatilistic business, it's all about one man's loss being another man's gain.  If cooperating results in a gain of both said men, then it they will do that.

Sony and Microsoft have different but interdependent products in the Office.  Sony and Microsoft have clashing and competing products in the living room.  There is nothing more than that.

Rocketpig and Reasonable are right.  This market isn't over saturated.  Many markets have multiple competitors without one dominating PS2 style.  The Big Three is going to be here for a while, whether you all like it or not.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.
