i think they will stay with 720p nextgen - it will be cheaper to make console capable of showing 720p graphics with steady 30-60 framerate - they don't need 1080p for games. and i would prefer 720p with steady 60frames/sec and better art style, textures etc than 1080p with unsteady framerate and worse graphics.
