Some consoles break 16 times as often as others, for instance. 

Anyway: if profitable, MS will stay, but if something happens to where they feel they are secure in the living room with Windows, without needing a gaming console, they could call it quits if things get tough next gen.  If they feel it's necessary to stay in the living room space with a console, they will.
