It’s too late for Sony to do anything about piracy with the PSP, as all phats and all slims pre firmware 4.xx) are easily hackable. Also a HEN (Homebrew ENabler) should be out very soon for the 3000.

This is just going to force Sony into a better business model for the PSP2 with downloadable content, no UMD, possibly an apps store similar to the iPhone and profitable hardware from the start.

While most people use CFW to pirate games there are legitimate reasons to hack your PSP. Games running off your memory stick load faster and uses less battery. Homebrew has produced a pdf reader, a better mp3, a youtube player and many other apps to better the PSP. Emulation is also possible for the NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1 and other systems. Basically PSP is a great product. It’s too bad you have to hack it to get the most functionality out of it.

As for piracy as stated before the losses are probably exaggerated but they are still losses but who know how many people bought a PSP for piracy?
