Suikoden II and III allow that to a certain degree. Specially in II, it's not exactly a "continue" since the game happens 3 years after in a different region, but if you load the previous game save data some characters from the first game can carry over levels and equipment, and you get a bonus character, plus you get tons of more dialogues and scenes

 

The ignorance in this thread is stifling.  Too many people are talking about too many things they lack the knowledge to talk about.

Let me answer the red part and make at least three people kick themselves with 2 words:  dot hack.

Oh wait, you wanted a WRPG example?  Baldur's Gate 1 and 2.
