The difference between the Gameboy and its competitors at the time -- the Lynx and the Gamegear -- were much greater than the differences between the Wii and its competitors -- the Xbox 360 and the PS3.
The handheld craze started when I was in graduate school -- and I was much more interested in playing PC than consoles (new age which I thought were junk or classic which were generally packed away).
I remember thinking how cool the Lynx was.
