Some of my favorite platformers are in 3D. Banjo Kazooie, Super Mario 64 among others,
but the replayability of the 2D classics leaves me in awe!
Mega Man 2 (my fav.) :D
Duck Tales
Super Mario Bros. 3
Sonic The Hedgehog
Castlevania
Donkey Kong Country
The 5th Gen 3D games entertained me back in the 90s. Unfortunately, these days they feel really old and out of date. My impression is that many of the 5th generation 3D games just didn't age that well at all (horrible 'fog' and nasty polygons). The 2D games however, still feels so fresh everytime I play them (think of the lush sharp Gfxs in the Snes and Sega Mega Drive games).
So..3d or 2d platformers? :/
