Some of my favorite platformers are in 3D. Banjo Kazooie, Super Mario 64 among others,
but the replayability of the 2D classics leaves me in awe!

Mega Man 2 (my fav.) :D

Sonic The Hedgehog

Donkey Kong Country

The 5th Gen 3D games entertained me back in the 90s. Unfortunately, these days they feel really old and out of date. My impression is that many of the 5th generation 3D games just didn't age that well at all (horrible 'fog' and nasty polygons). The 2D games however, still feels so fresh everytime I play them (think of the lush sharp Gfxs in the Snes and Sega Mega Drive games).

So..3d or 2d platformers? :/

Rayman 2, Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie, conker bad fur day, Rayman 2, Crash first trilogy, Spyro's trilogy, Super Mario 64, Tombi, GEX, Ape escape, Croc The PS One/N64 generation was really an platform game heaven.

Oh yeah I prefer 3D.

I'm a 2D fanatic. Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Kibry's Adventure, and all 3 DKC games are amazing. I'm also a big fan of Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3.

As for 3D, my favorite are the Crash PS games.

My favorite platformer ever is Conker's Bad Fur Day, but overall it's definitely 2D. This gen my favorites thus far are New Super Mario Bros., Yoshi's Island DS, Chronos Twin, Mega Man ZX and Mega Man 9. I did enjoy Prince of Persia and Mario Galaxy a lot though.
