 He did say "We’ve captured the hardcore" which can be taken as "all" depending on how you look at it.  There wouldn't be as much to get people all huffed up about if he had left that line out and just gone with the "The install base we have now tells us that the hardcore’s purchased. We’re moving on now to continue to support them with a tremendous line-up of games, but also look at softer brands that maybe we had with PS2 franchises we’re bringing over to PS3, or new IP.” IMO.

 

Precisely. 

People who just want to make bullshit attacks will take it as "We have all the hardcore gamers".

People who actually understand what is being said will take it how I explained it.

 

I also call bullshit on the whole "There wouldn't be as much to get people all huffed up about" because it doesn't matter what Sony says, they will always get attacked.
