Fergie was overconfident, and I think the Champions League remains a priority for them. For some reason Hiddink is able to play Lampard, Essien, Ballack and Drogba for every single match, and it does seem to be working. Arsenal and Chelsea both chose their best teams, Wenger did chose a stupid team, but that is because he was trying to match Chelsea, a stupid thing to do
