It is a fairly high profile game, although its not like the 2m were sold in Japan, only 250,000 units or so were, but I don't think it sold 30,000 on day one last year because people "wanted it" as a must have game, I just think it was picked up by a certain number of new owners purchasing a title. This year, Wii hardware sales are only about 2,000-3,000/day when the game released so 2.5k suggests that its at least theoretically possible that almost every new owner bought the game.

The real game to watch is Monster Hunter G. If that doesn't push Wii back into the 25k+ range followed by the usual Golden Week lifts than Wii is in real trouble in Japan until Wii Sports Resort/Tales of Grace/Monster Hunter 3.

Its important to remember the context here too.

Lowest registered weekly sales in Japan

PS3 ~4,100

Wii ~ 14,500

360 ~ 900

PS2 ~ 3,600 (Nov-Dec 2000)

DS ~ 10,200 (Feb 06)

PSP ~ 16,100 (Sep 07)

The PS2 and DS figures both roughly match what the Wii is experiencing now in Japan which is to say:

A) No price drop

B) A software drought

C) Massive sales in the west which the manufacturer wanted to top before worrying about Japan

D) A big lead

I always found you a better analyst than many of the "professional analysts" out there.

Good job, I didn't know about that PS2 low number.
