6)Sanitarium (PC)
You've probably never heard of this one but it's easily the freakiest game on the list. A sort of graphic adventure, not only does reality keep changing around you but you keep transforming yourself – from a little girl to a four-armed Cyclops. The other people you meet are even weirder.
7)Project Zero II: Crimson Butterfly (PlayStation 2/Xbox)
The gameplay may not be all that interesting on its own, but for many people this crash course in spirit photography is the scariest game ever. Also known as Fatal Frame, the third sequel is a Wii exclusive and meant to be the best yet, but Nintendo are refusing to release it in the West.
8)Siren: Blood Curse (PlayStation 3)
Technically this is just a remake of the original Forbidden Siren on PS2, but the upgrade of the graphics and voiceovers makes it an entirely different game. Using the sightjacking gimmick to see the world through a zombie's eye, as it attacks and kills you, is not the best thing to do before bed.
9)Resident Evil (GameCube)
As it becomes more and more a straight action series, this is the game to come to when remembering Resident Evil's roots. The GameCube remake (shortly to be re-released for Wii) adds stunning graphics and extra horrible enemies like Lisa Trevor and the dreaded crimson zombies.
10)Silent Hill 2 (PlayStation 2/Xbox/PC)
The last few Silent Hill games have been pretty lame (although the remake of the original for the Wii, PS2 and PSP does sound promising). The first three are still the most disgustingly scary games of all time though, particularly number two with the infamous mannequin-raping Pyramid Head.
