Buying a Wii is unnecessary too. Does that make it the cheapest? Not playing online games on the X360 is an option... factors into the price for most?
Citing the extremes borders on anecdotal, when you're talking price. The variance in price is pretty large, for a large number of consumers, and that's a factor for the Wii, whether you want to deny it or not. Labelling a common accessory as "optional" doesn't make it free for all, or even most, users, unless you can back it up with evidence that supports the argument that no one feels the need to buy it, to enjoy their console. If it is a desirable accessory, and the consumers buy it... well they paid for it then, didn't they? So you cannot discount it, as a portion in the cost.
